Thanks for the IE8 filter list updates :)
I'm not a fan of website favicons so would I be right if I were to add an additional filter line to the list via Notepad:

*/favicon.ico
<wf:blockRegex>*/favicon.ico</wf:blockRegex>

that this would block favicons satisfactorily?
Thanks

Hello, I'm a newbie here.

I just want to how to allow images to show on Wikipedia without turning off the InPrivate Filtering? It is a nuisance. Do anyone know which code on the filter at which I can allow images to show on Wiki?

Thanks in advance.

I'm wondering too, or at least about how to automatically generate the XML files from the .ini files

Tried working on this, and I still don't know why it doesn't work, on this page (see the background skin), had so many variations of blocking http://photos.itpro.co.uk/images/skins/ ... stSkin.jpg

Must be some funky MS regex, but it should block it, I tried plenty of simple filters..

Code:

Adblock List

Block list

itpro.co.uk/images/skins/

      <wf:blockRegex>
        itpro.co.uk/images/skins/
      </wf:blockRegex>

*itpro.co.uk/images/skins/*

      <wf:blockRegex>
        *itpro.co.uk/images/skins/*
      </wf:blockRegex>

*.itpro.co.uk/images/skins/*

      <wf:blockRegex>
        *.itpro.co.uk/images/skins/*
      </wf:blockRegex>

http://www.itpro.co.uk/images/skins/*

      <wf:blockRegex>
        http://www.itpro.co.uk/images/skins/*
      </wf:blockRegex>

*/images/skins/*

      <wf:blockRegex>
        */images/skins/*
      </wf:blockRegex>

/images/skins/*

      <wf:blockRegex>
        /images/skins/*
      </wf:blockRegex>

/images/skins/

      <wf:blockRegex>
        /images/skins/
      </wf:blockRegex>

skins

      <wf:blockRegex>
        skins
      </wf:blockRegex>

*skins*

      <wf:blockRegex>

Note: Adblock Filters for Internet Explorer is not supported Officially.

Updated: 04 February 2011

Before adding/updating the new filters remove all existing filters. Download and extract the zip file, then import the main list.
Download Main List

The stats list is to be used with Main list, so you can add the stats list after you have added the main list.
Download Stats List

Below is a merged version of Main and stats list. You can skip the above steps if you want to use main and stats list combined. Just clear existing rules, Download and Extract the zip file and then import the xml.
Download Main + Stats List Combined

The Main and Stats lists combined are too big; unfortunately IE8 stores its InPrivate lists in the Registry, and if the XML file is more than about 550KB (never tried to find the limit, but I know from experience that 700KB is well over it) then when you try to access your InPrivate Filtering again to alter it, the dialog will close down, and then to fix it you will need to use the Registry.

If you can't open the "InPrivate Filtering" dialog anymore, open regedit by any means necessary and navigate to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Safety\PrivacIE\
and delete the WebFilters key; it should take effect immediately, but if not, try logging off Windows and logging back in, and then add just the filters in filter-beta.zip

I did not encounter the bug that you said. On the other hand i did face some other issues.

When i open the inprivate filtering dialog, it wouldn't show the filters I have imported. To fix that i had to restart IE and it would show up as normal after a restart. Which is quite annoying. It also takes a lot of times to list all those filters.

Other than that i sometime see some performance degradation, like IE freezes for a second before loading a page on heavy sites (the ones with lot of javascript and flash content.)
